marmomac 2026.
what we saw at the fair.
Marmomac is the international natural stone fair. It has been held in Verona every September for more than sixty years and brings together quarries, factories, machinery and design from all over the world. I go to find material and take the pulse of what is coming. This is what I brought back in 2026, with a look back at 2025.

stone as a source of light.
The most photographed thing at the fair: slabs whose veining turns into light, a luminous line crossing the slab along its natural pattern, and backlit onyx in large panels. Stone stops being a surface and becomes a lamp. Alongside, bathrooms clad continuously, floor, wall and bath in the same material.

geometry: herringbone, inlay, mosaic.
Layout is the protagonist again. Herringbone in light limestone for indoors and outdoors, red and white marble parquet, inlays of dark stone triangles on a cream ground and small-format green mosaics. The same thing you see on Verona’s floors, reinterpreted with CNC cutting.

And inlay taken to the extreme: butterflies of coloured stone set into a pale slab crossed by a red band. Nearby, stands presented as a collage of samples.

textures you can touch.
More and more stands show stone in relief: split, aged, bush-hammered surfaces or the natural quarry texture. Open-pored limestones are presented to be touched. For the architect, the finish is no longer a final detail: it is part of choosing the material.

sculpture and object.
Bathtubs carved from a single block, shown in front of an image of the quarry they came from; sculptural pieces in limestone; even a whole basketball court in marble. Behind it all, machining robots that make possible what was unthinkable in stone ten years ago.

And a little licence: a crocodile carved in white marble on grass, and a bathroom where water falls onto a sculptural stone piece.

travertine, again.
And as in Milan, travertine: whole blocks at the doors of the halls, in light and golden tones. If 2025 hinted at it, 2026 confirms it.

what i take home.
Light, geometry, texture and volume. The four trends have one thing in common: they demand choosing the stone well, starting from the block. That is why I go to Verona every year: to know quarries and factories and bring to each project exactly what it needs.
